A GROUP OF FIVE JAPANESE CLOISONNE ENAMEL VASES, LATE MEIJI PERIOD-EARLY 20TH CENTURY. Comprising: a tall slender faceted bottle-shaped vase with lappet-shaped panels of phoenix and butterflies, on a dark blue ground 31cm high, an oviform vase with shield-shaped panels of phoenix and dragons, a miniature vase similar, a bottle vase marbled in burnt orange and gold enamel and a miniature vase decorated with flowerhead mons (5)
Provenance: Property of a Sussex gentleman
Condition: The tall faceted bottle shaped vase – with retouching and in-filling to one panel, restoration to rim, some general wear, minor losses to enamels. The larger oviform vase with dragons and phoenix – with small in-filled chip to enamel above footrim and another to shoulder, some cracking and losses to base, some wear. The miniature vase in similar design – minor wear. Bottle vase with marbled enamel decoration – minor wear and very small flakes to rim. Miniature vase with flowerhead mons – with crack and chip to neck and upper rim, some wear and losses to enamel. Some wear overall.
