A LARGE CHINESE SWATOW ENAMELLED PORCELAIN DISH, MING / QING DYNASTY. Elaborately decorated in red, green, black and blue enamels. The central design featuring several Chinese characters, some seated, others performing various tasks, surrounded by pagodas, trees, flowers & leaves. The border decorated with various panels containing birds, trees, fruit, leaves. The underside with an undecipherable mark in black under green enamel. Believed to have been made for the Japanese market. Diameter 39.5cm (15 inches). Late Ming / early Qing.
Sections of rim to upper part of dish broken and re-stuck.
