AN IVORY AND GOUACHE-PAINTED PAPER FAN, PROBABLY CHINESE 18/19TH CENTURY. The sticks carved and inlaid with silver and mother-of-pearl with paste rivet. Well-painted with European figures in landscape scene. A gilt metal handle and red tassel attached. Total width opened 49cm. Blade length 27cm
Reference: For a similar fan see The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Accession Number: 2009.300.1850. A fan described as probably Chinese from the third quarter of the 18th century.
*PLEASE NOTE – Ivory lots for UK bidders only with domestic postage. Not available for bidders outside of the UK. One mother of pearl section missing from blade. Flaking and cracking to areas of paint. The guards repaired in two places. The twenty supporting sticks in good overall condition. No major damage to paper.
